Standing directly on the Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront, the Danieli occupies three interconnected Gothic palaces that have been welcoming guests since the 14th century. The oldest of these, the Palazzo Dandolo, once hosted the likes of George Sand, Alfred de Musset, and Charles Dickens — a legacy that permeates every gilded corridor and marble staircase. Pierre Yves Rochon's recent redesign of the 120 rooms and suites threads a careful line between honoring this extraordinary history and bringing the spaces firmly into the present, drawing on the deep teals, faded golds, and dusty rose tones that characterize Venice's own weathered beauty. The rooms themselves feel genuinely Venetian rather than generically opulent — Italian marble bathrooms stocked with robes and slippers, satellite television tucked discreetly into the décor, and in the most coveted rooms, unobstructed views across the lagoon toward San Giorgio Maggiore.
