The resort spreads across 16 hectares of island, with 120 villas split between beachfront, jungle, and overwater settings. What sets the property apart physically is its lagoon — one of the largest of any resort in the Maldives — and a 200-yard swimming pool that runs parallel to the shore. The private beach wraps around much of the island, and the house reef stretches for 5.6 miles, making this as much a destination for serious snorkelers as it is for those who simply want to do nothing at all. Eating and drinking here goes well beyond the standard resort formula. Raha Market handles international dishes with a relaxed, all-day energy, while KATA Restaurant & Rooftop Bar brings a Japanese-influenced menu and some of the best sunset views on the island. Azure Fine Dining focuses on fresh seafood in a more formal setting. Between meals, the all-bamboo Balinese bar — built entirely from bamboo — is worth a visit on its own terms, serving cocktails that lean into local ingredients and flavors. The spa rounds out the wellness side of things, alongside a well-equipped fitness center and attentive room service throughout. The resort also has a cultural and environmental dimension that gives it real substance. British sculptor and ocean conservationist Jason deCaires Taylor created an underwater museum installation in the lagoon, where guests can snorkel through submerged sculptures that double as artificial reef structures. It's an unusual and genuinely memorable experience, and it says something about the resort's character that such a project exists here at all.
