Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo

Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo opens in 2027 after a full restoration of the historic Shepheard Hotel on the eastern bank of the Nile. The hotel sits in Downtown Cairo's Garden City district, close to the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili and Al-Azhar Mosque, with direct access to the Nile Corniche. Its name traces back to 1841, while the present Nile-side building dates from 1957. The hotel has 188 rooms and 88 suites, many with balconies and views over the city, the Nile or Gezira Island. Five restaurants and bars include a rooftop restaurant and a club lounge. Event spaces include a rooftop ballroom. Paris-based designer Sybille de Margerie shapes the interiors, preserving the building's heritage while bringing its facilities up to date. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental has eight treatment suites, an indoor lap pool and a rooftop swimming pool. Guests also have access to a fitness centre, beauty salon and kids' club.
